posture and pilates

by Lynette

Your description of your back pain is very similar to mine. I've never sought help for it because I'm a nurse (in the U.S.) and I know what would be advised: ibuprofen, gentle exercise. Alternative treatments like massage or body work isn't covered by insurance and I'm always resistant to spending my money on healthcare when I'd much rather buy a plane ticket.

Earlier this spring I took a once a week pilates class and felt like this is exactly what my body needs, the 'core' strengthening it promotes. I didn't sign up for a summer class and I can really feel the return of the muscle aches. I slouch, my low back hurts, my shoulders ache, and there is a band of tension across my thoracic region.

I think if I can get some abdominal strength I can transfer energy to keeping my head up and my shoulders straight(er). I've started walking again this week. I pretty much alternate between head/shoulders and abdomen. It's just too much work to keep both areas contracted.

Thanks for the website. It's nice to know you're out there and it's refreshing that you aren't selling a gadget.

Take care, I'll send good vibes across the pond.

Thanks for the kind words
by: Steve

Hi - thanks for the kind words about my site. It's important to me not to be selling anything because I don't want to be like all the other sites out there.

(Okay, so I have a few adwords - I do have some costs to cover!)

Anyway, I'm glad pilates is working for you. I wish it was as effective for me!

Good luck and best wishes, steve

My Lower Back Pain

Please note that I have no relationship with the products or services I describe here. I developed this site partly to encourage me to put more effort into fixing my own back, but also to inspire others to go take control of their own back care.

Hopefully you may find some of the ideas here useful, and maybe can discuss them with your doctor.

If you find mylowerbackpain.com useful, please add a link to it from your website or blog.

Thanks, Steve.
