Lacing your MBTs

by Paul Oscar

I enjoyed reading your MBT "one year" diary. I have been wearing MBT's for less than a year and have found that it has improved, if nothing else, my posture...even when not wearing them! I am now looking at a $270 pair! I NEVER thought I would pay that for a shoe, much less be able to afford it!

To the person who had trouble keeping her MBT's tight, I offer the following tip given to me by my salesman. I have read this over and i think it is easy to follow. Keep in mind that from eyelet #4 to #5, you are "working" on the same side of the shoe, until you are told, in the last steps, to go to the opposite side.

Lace your shoes, starting with your laces coming UP through the bottom eyelets on each side. Numbering the eyelets from the bottom up, this would be eyelet #1. Proceed lacing up, always bringing the lace UP through each eyelet, in a normal fashion.

To get real basic, take the lace coming up through eyelet #1 on the left, thread up through eyelet #2 on the right. Then cross and thread it up through eyelet #3 on the left, then through the "tongue opening" and up through eyelet #4 on the right. After lacing up through eyelet #4, on both sides, take the lace on the LEFT and lace it DOWN through eyelet #5 ON THE LEFT SIDE, the same side. After doing both sides you should have a "LOOP" on the top of the shoe, between eyelets #4 & #5, on each side of the shoe. Then take the lace coming down through eyelet #5 on the left and thread it through the "LOOP" on the right side, on the top of the shoe. Take the lace coming down through eyelet #5 on the right and lace it through the loop on the left.

If you pull up on the laces, you are in a normal "tie your shoes" position.

Pull up on your laces normally as when you tie your shoe. You will find that each time you pull up you are tightening the laces up and down the shoe, through the "LOOPS" that you have created. Each time you pull the laces vertically, you tighten. You can then adjust the loop to continue tightening.

Trust me, it is easier to do it than describe it!

My Lower Back Pain

Please note that I have no relationship with the products or services I describe here. I developed this site partly to encourage me to put more effort into fixing my own back, but also to inspire others to go take control of their own back care.

Hopefully you may find some of the ideas here useful, and maybe can discuss them with your doctor.

If you find mylowerbackpain.com useful, please add a link to it from your website or blog.

Thanks, Steve.
