Degeneration of the spine

I have degeneration of the spine. My first surgery was when I was 28 years old, to try to 'fix' my L5 vert. as it was slowly crumbling away.

Then when I was 36, the pain came back in the worst way. The vert. had completely crumbled away. My spine was sitting about 75% forward OFF my tailbone. Nerves crushed or damaged - I can't believe I can still walk!

Surgeons did a fusion and were able to pull my spine back to about 50% centered but nothing could be done about the nerve damage. I can't sit or stand for over 30 minutes without being in a LOT of pain. Long car rides will cause my legs to cramp. No more hiking, horse back riding - I used to be Very outdoorsy. Now it's all I can do to make it through the workday.

However - a friend brought me his 'Backfriend' and let me give it a try. What a great invention! I can sit longer at my desk and my 45 minute commute is nothing now! this is such a help. I still go to a pain clinic for treatments (have you ever tried nerve burn therapy? it works! can last from 4 months to a year as the nerves to 'grow' back) but the back friend is great for posture.

I've only used it for a week now - and am going to have my daughter try it this weekend - she has scoliosis. I bet it helps her too!

my back pain
by: Anonymous

I started with back pain after the birth of my first baby, put up with it for a number of years, had osteopathy and accupuncture you name it I tried it, eventually had a tens machine from hospital but no good, had a spinal fusion on my lower back in 1982 using bone and screws, which was fine for a number of years (not completely pain free) but could put up with it. eventually the pain got worse and a second spinal fusion took place this time with plates and screws, but after two years I was no better still in extreme pain. Surgeon said he could not do anything for me I have just got to live with it and live on painkillers. Cannot stand or walk for long have to use a wheelchair for any distance.Just doing easy things like peeling potatoes is a problem standing. My mother told me I had tuberculosis when I was a child whether this left my spine weak I donot know, but I live with extreme pain 24hrs a day. am limited what I can do.
