Confused about the right size of MBT shoes

by elina

I intend to buy a pair of MBT sandals with stripes (you know what I mean), but am thinking to do lots of brisk walking, so was trying out the sports shoes. My Adidas sports shoes are size 38. But trying on the MBT's 38 and 3/4 size, the front part is just nice (almost no allowance of space for my toes), so I tried a 39, it has quite enough space for my toes.

However, when I wear thinner or thicker socks causes the back of the shoes to drop off the heel(back) of my foot when I walk.

Now, after reading your article saying you bought a size smaller than your normal shoe size.

My above experience, is it due to:

1) I have the wrong size MBT? (Should I stay with MBT size 38, or do I have to reduce one size down from my normal shoes and tried a size 37?)

or

2) I didn't walk the correct way which is after getting the pivot of the center of the shoes while stand and when begin to walk, one has to roll the feet about backward to really start walking with the heels of the feet and let the shoes roll the feet forward, and repeat the next step the same way. Am I getting this right and is this way of walking what you guys talk about taking a while to get use to it?

or

3) Are MBT sandals alright for brisk or heavy walking?

I really hope to get a response as soon as possible, as the store has two more days of 20% off during sales promotion here in my country).

Avoiding cramping toes
by: Anonymous

I bought a pair of MTB clogs. I got them in my regular size 41. I have a toe that bends under its neighbour on my left foot and it needs room to spread out or I get a terrible ache so I was afraid to get a 40.

I hope they work out, they do not feel tight at all. do the clogs need to fit differently.

Normal size worked for me..
by: Brian

I too was advised to get a smaller size than my normal size 10... but I just couldn't cope with cramped toes that came with that.

I ended up buying my normal size 10s and find I can walk almost indefinitely in them, providing I lace them up as tight as possible... far more tightly than I would my normal shoes.

It's still comfortable and I get the full instability benefits with no in-shoe movement..

I guess this is down to the shape of one's feet, so caveat emptor!

Size Shoes
by: Doel Ferguson

A shoe size is a alphanumerical indication of the fitting size of a shoe for a person. Often, it just consists of a number indicating the length because many shoemakers only provide a standard width for economic reasons.

mbt sizing
by: caris rd

I read this e-mail about sizing. I had to go a MBT specialist who had been trained in sizing, once the 1st pair have been sized the 2nd pair were easier to size I hope this is okay

Get specialist help!
by: Steve

Hi Elina,

I'm afraid I have no idea what your difficulty is. I'm not an expert in MBTs - I've just enjoyed wearing them.

I suggest you find a store that sells them and get some specialist advice. Alternatively you might try to get in touch with a fitness instructor who knows about MBTs.

Regards,

steve
