Fantastic that you tried it.

I'm really glad you've given Bowen a try - I hope partially due to the mention of my website. Remember it's very important to keep up the aftercare - no hot showers, no serious stretching, no vigorous exercise - just plenty of water, don't sit in one position for more than 30 mins (on same day of treatment) and walk as much as possible. That way you are giving it the most likelihood of working.

I am bemused as why you started off on your back (e.g. working on your front). I always start on the back and put in the 'stoppers'. That is the way I and other members of the Bowen Technique Academy of Australia (Original Bowen Technique) were taught by Ossie and Elaine - who were 'taught' by Tom himself. There were 6 pupils of Tom to begin with and some of the others have also started their versions of the Bowen Technique training. However, it is very strange that the methodology is different at such a fundamental level. The 'stoppers' have to go in first, especially when treating the lower back!

Steve's comments:

Thanks for your comment - I've got a bit more to do to update the page.

I think also you caught a mistake - I did start by lying on my front and then turning over to my back. I'll sort that out when I update the page.

Bowen did the trick

by Celia Hurdle
(Juniper Hills, California)

I had suffered for many years with 2 bulging disks that would slip every few months resulting in many trips to a chiropractor. I then found a doctor practicing Applied Kinesiology, this worked a lot better than chiropractic, I would get instant relief and found it to be less violent.

My back would still go out every few months but I was relieved to have somewhere to go that would ease my pain. I figured I would just have to deal with my back issues for the rest of my life.

That was until I found a wonderful Bowen practitioner.

In the last 18 months I have had just 4 Bowen sessions and my back has not gone out once. I feel stronger and not afraid to try things "just in case my back would go out". In fact, just last week I was White Water Rafting in 3+ rapids - not bad for my first try.

You can get descriptions of Bowen from a couple of official websites www.bowtech.com or www.bowenwork.com but in a nutshell - Bowen is a manipulation of the muscles that releases toxins and tension and encourages the body to heal itself. It's a relaxing, therapeutic experience and has worked wonders for me.

Marie Unini and her Bowen work has changed my life and saved me so much money. If you're in the Southern California area, Marie works in Pasadena and the Antelope Valley.

(Steve's Note - I've removed the phone number and email that Celia included as I have no idea if these are genuine. I'm sure that Marie can be contacted in the yellow pages or another local directory.)

Bowen great - Tempur not so good

by Valerie

I have a bad back which has recently been helped enormously by having BOWEN treatment after my usual visits to an osteopath stopped working.

BUT I think my back has been made worse by my Tempur mattress (bought at great cost) & for the moment I have returned to using a normal sprung mattress which seems to support me better.

I found it very difficult to turn over on the Tempur & the twisting to try & turn made the pain in my back much worse.
