In early 2006 the BBC broadcast a short series looking at the science behind alternative medicine (with sometimes unexpected results).

The series tells the story of a remarkable journey taken by scientist Kathy Sykes to uncover the truth behind the world’s most ancient medicines. She sets off to discover whether they really do work and - if so - how.

I was impressed - and I particularly liked the section on placebos and sham surgery. It suggests that the mind is a much more powerful factor in healing than modern medicine normally allows.
